Feasibility Study
So you want to introduce a new computer facility to your organisation. The first
stage should be to examine the problem and consider how best to resolve it.
In carrying out a feasibility study, both users, business analysts and IT
analysts all need to have a clear understanding of the business'
processes and the precise nature of the information processing issues to be addressed by the new application.
The study should cover:
Why do you need a new application? |
Define the problem you want to solve |
What is the new application meant to do? |
Look round for possible approaches to solving
the problem |
For each potential approach, consider: |

the technical solution |

conformity to the
existing IT infrastructure |

the financial and staff
resources that might be needed |
Decide which approach should adopted |
Draw up a formal BUSINESS CASE (including costs,
benefits, payback period and internal rate of return) |
