4-CONSULTING E-ZINE

With new legislation on recycling and disposing of electrical equipment, we're taking the opportunity to look at how you can reduce environmental impacts and your organisation's carbon footprint.

We've also got some comments on two recent surveys in the US and UK looking at unplanned absence from work, i.e. "sickies", and "presenteeism" and the implications for employers.

In this edition of our e-Zine, we comment on some recent research that we have completed for the Scottish Executive on "employee engagement" and summarise some of our findings.  We've also some guidance on managing Health & Safety at work.

Going IT Green

Recent changes in UK law now obliges electrical equipment manufacturers to be responsible for the final disposal of all electrical equipment.  One of the consequences of this change is that IT managers must now ensure that all computer equipment is returned, either directly or via an authorised disposal agency, to the original manufacturer for disposal.

Over the summer months, we have won commissions from the Scottish Ambulance Service to facilitate their strategic projects priorities and from the Fife Constabulary to help them prepare the business case for a new building (?).

We've also carried out an ICT Strategic Options review for the University of St Andrews. Most recently, we drafted and agreed the University's new ICT Strategy Plan for the next five years.

Tell us your view

In our last e-Zine, we asked your views on whether private equity funds were good for the UK economy.  Our readers voted strongly against that view.

We hope that you will take a moment to answer the following question:

The recent resignation of the Liberal Democrat leader was said to driven by a sense of ageism in the UK media.  Some UK legislation has been passed to try to eradicate ageism in the work-place.

Do you think that ageism is prevalent in the workplace?
