Bob Cunningham

Background
Bob Cunningham has over 25 years experience in HR and general management gained
at Director level in a variety of organisations covering public utilities,
multi-national manufacturing, food production, Higher and Further education.
Heavily involved in the CIPD, he has significant experience of introducing and improving HR
policy frameworks, compensation and benefits, performance management and communications systems
as well as job evaluation, recruitment/retention strategies and leadership development.
He has
developed competencies in employment law, change management, executive recruitment, coaching and
mentoring.
He has been involved in the development and implementation of corporate strategic plans and
business restructuring, in both the private and public sectors.
Bob has extensive experience in
organisational development / design, HR strategy development and implementation, benchmarking,
compensation and benefits in the public, not for profit and
private sectors. He has had significant exposure and direct involvement in mergers, TUPE and
shared service provisions.
He also has practical operational experience of the Higher Education system through his role as
HR Director at Glasgow Caledonian University and subsequent consultancy assignments at similar
levels at the University of Glasgow and the University of Paisley. In addition he has been involved
with Robert Gordon University, the University of the Highlands and Islands Millennium Institute,
Inverness College and Moray College in providing a range of HR related support.
Bob has advised Scottish Resources Group, Aquamarine Power, Albyn
Housing, International Paper and the Moray Council. His consultancy client base currently
covers the private and public sectors, manufacturing, retail, the voluntary housing sector
and local authorities, as well as FE and HE institutions.
Bob’s strengths include a
"can do" approach to tasks, a realistic and results orientated management style and an ability to bring
out the best in people. This skill has been further developed by his recent involvement and
accreditation as a Career Coach.
During his HR career, Bob has been involved extensively at
operational and strategic levels, establishing and reviewing HR functions, often balancing
professional aspects with pragmatic business decisions.
