Background
Annette Hogg is the Managing Director of H2R Solutions, Human Resource Management Consultancy and an Associate with 4-consulting.
Annette’s career spans 20 years in human resource management and development starting with W D & H O Wills Cigarette Manufacturer as an Assistant Personnel Officer. Following a family career break she undertook an initial role of Store Personnel and Training Officer with one of Boots the Chemists (BTC) Large Stores. She quickly moved through the career ladder within BTC to become firstly Area Training Officer then Area Personnel Manager for large Stores across all of Scotland and lastly Regional Training and Development Manager for all Stores (large and small) across Scotland, priding support for a business with an annual turnover of £260M and a management population of 150.
Moving to DSG International to become Divisional Personnel Manager for Scotland and the North, she then became Development Manager covering Scotland and England north of Birmingham, monitoring disbursement of an annual resourcing budget of £514K and preparing and deploying a strategy of changing the balance of resourcing activity away from external recruitment to internal succession. Her key achievements within DSG
included playing a lead role in successfully re-structuring one
of the group’s businesses streamlining the management complement
from 700 to 400 people with no adverse business impact.
She moved into independent consultancy in 2002 and in that time has continuously developed, secured, and maintained a loyal Client base of companies based throughout the UK for all aspects of human resource management and development. A part of this development was in securing Investors in People Advisory contracts with Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire and Glasgow. She became a Registered Advisor in 2007 and has now completed her registration as a Specialist IIP Practitioner. Annette continues to provide tailored HR solutions to a range of public, private and not-for-profit sector clients. In addition, she now works as an Assessor for the Office for the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Scotland (OCPAS).
Relevant ExperienceInvestors in People Adviser
Annette trained as Investors in People (IIP) Adviser in 2003.
In 2007, she became a Registered Adviser with IIP Scotland and in 2008,
Annette became a Specialist Practitioner (Assessor).
She has supported a number of companies in the use of the IIP best practice framework and all who have come forward for award under her guidance have been successfully accredited.
Even where companies choose not to commit to the standard, Annette recognises its value and provides advice and support aligned to the best practice, continuous improvement business tool it represents. In this way she has supported organisations in the private, public and charity sectors develop bespoke appraisal systems and competency frameworks. She encourages these and all organisations to adopt an holistic approach to their HR management and practice tailored their business goals. The approach encompasses recruitment through to development, succession planning and career development and, where relevant, underpins any work undertaken. An advocate of the balanced scorecard, she ensures that evaluation is integral so that the business can fully understand the impact of its HR practice. In all of her activities, Annette therefore works closely with clients to ensure that objectives and outputs required are clearly defined and the measured business return is clearly thought through, understood and agreed at the outset.
Her experience and expertise with IIP has won her work with currently recognised organisations such as Scottish ESF Objective 3 Partnership who wanted to ensure that their revised performance appraisal system both enabled effective management of performance but was also consistent with current standard of IIP.
Human Resources Management
Annette currently works with a range of businesses providing employment advice and support covering the preparation of bespoke employment documentation, acting as a virtual personnel manager to small and medium sized businesses and providing HR project support to large businesses and organisations. Typical clients include solicitors, architects and financial services, engineering, manufacturing and recycling companies, small joiners, builders and heating engineers, restaurants, hairdressers, beauticians, large and small transport companies, organisations, large and small, in the care sector and local authorities.
I
n 2004, Annette was commissioned by Business Gateway in Dunbartonshire to provide a presentation to the Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce entitled SMART Recruitment.
She also provided an HR Masterclass for growing businesses on behalf of Business Gateway Lanarkshire in March 2006. |
